Droidcon Orlando 2026 Recap
This year’s Droidcon USA has moved down to Orlando, Florida and has taken place in a surprisingly large venue, the Orange County Convention Center. As always, Greg and his team did great job in organizing the conference and together with the program committee have set up a great lineup of speakers. One in particular stood out to me, the comparison of Coroutines and Threads by Ariella Mendel. Understanding the difference between the two can be tricky, but Ariella was able to explain everything perfectly, so make sure you watch the recording when it’s out.
Apart from giving a talk, this year we brought in a last-minute demo of our Kotlin Multiplatform Hot Reload. None of us expected to have it ready in time, but thankfully the venue had a fully-stocked FedEx center that I was able to print out some QR codes and buy stands for them, creating a sort of a networking banner. Then I spent most of the conference demoing how changes to a Kotlin file got almost instantly propagated to an application running on both Android and iOS. We’re still hard at work on the Kotlin Interpreter, which is the foundation of the Kotlin Multiplatform Hot Reload support.
Each Droidcon is a great time and we love to meet and talk with the Android and Kotlin Multiplatform community. We’re already preparing for Droidcon Berlin that’s happening this October and can’t wait to see you there!
